System of measuring basic electrical quantities such as voltage and current in the distribution system is connected to the three basic requirements of distributors:
- reliability,
- safety
- security.
The need for constant monitoring, control and integrated control of the entire energy distribution system implies an obligation to collect quality data on the basic electrical values (voltage, current, phase shift), and with a large number of key points of the system (lines SN, TS 35kV/10 (20) kV substation 20 (10) kV / 0.4 kV and LV lines bit).
Measurement of voltage and current can be successfully realized by using optical sensors.
A new set of standards can provide a modern monitoring and control, and together with the integrated control of high quality, would enable us to prepare pre-existing infrastructure in the power distribution system for the so-called solutions. "Intelligent Network" ("Smart Grid").
The way of measuring voltage and current in power distribution system voltages up to 35kV (MV lines, TS 35kV/10 (20) kV substation 20 (10) kV / 0.4 kV and LV lines bit) can improve the measurement system based on advanced technology optical sensors, in order to provide highly automated distribution network.
Optical sensors become both effective and efficient alternative instrument transformers for all the indicator measuring electrical quantities in power distribution system of medium and low voltage.
OPTICAL SENSORS
The main characteristics of optical sensors are:
- Optical sensors are electrically non-conductive, consisting of 95% plastic and 5% glass,
- Optical sensors are protected from being saturated (without ferromagnetic core as MT),
- They can be mounted directly on the conductor,
- Classic wiring has been replaced by optical cables,
- Assembly and installation of fiber optic sensors and systems is possible without a power failure.
The sensors are connected directly to the MV and LV end lines, transform's excerpts-intro ends, and leads on opti modules. The connection between sensors and modules via the optical cable.

OPTI MODULE
Optical module is intended solely for the monitoring of MV / LV transformer, where can measure currents from 5A to 20kA AC cables and power lines. With SmartCom unit is connected via CAN bus. Module constantly monitors the conditions of electric networks, and since there are a wide range of values, it is possible to make an intelligent control of electrical networks.

SMART COM UNIT
SmartCom RTU is the central processing unit for processing measurements and calculations. Able to communicate in multiple channels. The data are sent further to the SCADA system and other IT platforms. This is practically the communication module.
